Valeria Cummings Swope
Community Liaison, Department of Economic Inclusion, City of Cincinnati
Valeria Cummings Swope is Community Liaison with the City of Cincinnati’s Department of Economic Inclusion. The Department of Economic Inclusion’s goal is to ensure economic opportunity and inclusion for all citizens seeking to do business with the City of Cincinnati and serve as a catalyst for the growth of minority-and women-owned businesses in the City and throughout the region.
Valeria calls her position as Community Liaison a mixture of everything she’s ever done from TV to working in public relations/government relations. That’s because in what Valeria describes as her first life she spent nearly 30 years in broadcast news working for WKYT-TV in Lexington, Kentucky as an anchor/reporter. It was a job she loved as she got to meet lots of different people and won awards for her work as an anchor and reporter.
But one day she woke up and asked herself what did she want to be when she grew up and TV was no longer it. So she traveled to what TV people call, the dark side, and went into public relations/government relations, eventually making her way to Cincinnati and her current position.
Valeria is a proud member of the best sorority in the land, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., a member of Allen Temple AME, Cincinnati, and the mother of two fabulous children, her daughter Vashae who just got married and lives in Washington, DC and her son, William Vincent, who just moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
